Farmers Market at Ix, July 8, 2023

Hello Friends,

There is an abundance of produce at the markets this week. Peaches, berries, melons, tomatoes, cucumbers, potatoes, and corn will be available this week. We are lucky so far to be in a more moderate temperature zone. The south and southwest are not so fortunate. Keep being green: plant trees, compost, limit driving, moderate air conditioning, and adopt good environmental practices to help curb climate change.

Market Central will be represented in the Healthy Streets Healthy People event at Washington Park this Saturday from 10:00 a.m t 2:00 p.m. Market Central employees and volunteers will be spreading the word about the Farmers Market at Ix and ways to access and support local food. We appreciate donations of farm produce from Chevy Chase farms to distribute at the event.

We have had a sudden decrease in our bakers at the market. Some are taking time off, or are temporarily out. We did not have much notice, but we have had other applicants, so we look forward to filling the gaps in the coming weeks. We welcome customer input on products you would like to see. We welcome Peacemeal Farm bringing chicken and eggs, and two IRC New Roots farm vendors, Zakriia, and Ellen this week. Nona’s Italian Cucina will attend this week. She usually comes only once per month.
