Hello Market Community,

This weekend, the Atlantic nor-easter may affect our weather at the market, especially on Sunday. We may have rain and wind, especically on Sunday. The farm vendors are reliably hardy — the arts and crafts vendors less so. The bakers need a day in advance to prepare, so the choice is difficult for them. Market Central supports the vendors and customers who rely on food supplies by holding markets in all but dangerous conditions. As we move into colder and unsettled weather, check Instagram, and Facebook (linked below) for news, updates, and cancellations. We have only cancelled markets once in 8 years when the roads iced over.

This Saturday, we have a full market scheduled. The alternate vendors this week include Ryba’s Pierogi, Chaotic Good Tempeh, and Honeysuckle Creek Farm. Enjoy the end of summer produce, and the full bounty of fall pumpkins, winter squash, greens, apples, mushrooms, honey, Dahlias and Chrysanthemums. Turkeys can be ordered from the Hollows Farm co-op, Tilman’s Farm, and Bellair Farm.

We have an unusual request from Pork Stork. They would like to have your clean acorns for their pigs in return for a pork treat. PorkStork is located in space #66 next to Cold Country Salmon. Sounds like a good trade and something the kids can do!

There are new vendors at the Sunday Starr Hill Market! We’re all anticipating waffles from Kiki’s Belgian Waffles, and want to try out RVPBar’s energy bars. Baked goods, from Mila’s Cakes and Bakes, and Cloud Nine will be available, preserves from Old Nicks Pepper Preserves, and coffee from JBird. Last but not least, Encanto Homestead offers a full range of farm produce, and eggs. Come on out to the Starr Hill Market to support local farms, food, and emerging food businesses.
