SNAP Community Coordinator

Market Central is offering a grant-funded opportunity to work up to 10 hours per week to coordinate and promote the current SNAP program at the Farmers Markets at Ix. The best candidate will have an understanding of SNAP as a nutrition access program and the impact of fresh foods on one’s diet.
The SNAP Community Coordinator will promote the markets’ nutrition access programs to low-income communities and individuals, through communications with SNAP customers, neighborhood and community leaders, and organizations. At the market, the SNAP coordinator will be able to provide information about nutrition access programs to customers and staff.
The SNAP Community coordinator will communicate with market staff about outreach plans, and data, and will serve as a liaison between the SNAP community and program managers, providing insight into challenges that prevent individuals from accessing the program or other issues. The coordinator will also participate in the monthly Zoom call with state and regional Virginia Fresh Match to provide local feedback and share best practices.
Resources and skills needed, or to be trained, include:
● Communications
● Self-motivated, self-starter
● Use of the payment processor to conduct transactions
● Ability to keep detailed records and write reports
● Use of Google Suite/Google Workplace tools
● Comfortable and professional with large crowds and personal interaction
● Ability to work in all season’s weather
● Familiarity with nutrition access programs
● Access to a computer
● Access to transportation
Community Engagement Partner
Market Central is seeking an individual who has an interest in improving their community’s access and consumption of fresh, local produce. The position involves fostering relationships with community members and listening to suggestions and concerns relating to food access, and market development. This input will be used to advise Market Central. This is a grant-funded position. APPLY HERE
