Market News, Discussion and Vendor Line Up
Market Central’s Farmers Market at Ix Hours 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
The last day of May ends with lots of rain— hopefully a good set-up for the summer crops. Too much rain on the strawberries damages the fruit, but hopefully will benefit the summer growing season. The topsy turvy weather forecast affects the vendor line-up. Several farmers have cancelled along with a few artists due to product and staff availability issues. The bakers this week include Moonmaiden’s Delights for those looking for gluten-free and vegan baked goods.; Sugar Bear for Appalachian hand pies, Mary’s Pretzels, Maryem’s Homemade, Angel’s Afghan Cuisine, Avegutto Sourdough, Homestead Oven Gluten-free Sourdough, Good Phyte, Mr. Baker, Bee Conscious and the Pie Guy are our steady bakers. In additoin to Moonmaiden and the regulars, Boules on Barracks is setting up, and Mila’s Cakes and Bakes is a new Turkish baker with goods to introduce to your palate. Did you know that Hands Off Maria has Guatamalan temalles and papusas, a hand pie made with a cornmeal flatbread filled with beans and cheese ? They are good and healthy when looking for a savory option.
The rain has been hard on the cut flowers so look for Eleana Day, Gillispie’s County Line Farm, Thistlerock, Encanto Homestead and Lesley’s Garden for cut flowers this week. Mohammed with his Ghanaan baskets is attending this week! Folks have been looking for him. Pottery, soap and herbal products, jewelry, poems written on site, Shaylynn’s products for young folks, weaving, textile arts and tie dye are represented.
Non profits in attendance : Meals on Wheels brings attention to the need for volunteers to bring both meals and social connections to thier clients. The voter regtistrars bring information about the latest elections and can get you registered. The Cville Albemarle Convention and Visitors Bureau brings information about places and events to visit in the area.
See you at the market, and thanks for supporting local growers and small businesses.
