Tomorrow is kind of a hit or miss day. We will be open but vendors have the option to cancel if driving to or from their farm and business locations would be risky. The vendor line-up is posted in the map linked below.
We would like to tell you how the new administation is directly affecting your local food system. Market Central and the local IRC New Roots program were the lucky recipients of a United States Departmet of Agriculture Farmers Market and Local Food Promotion Project collaborative grant. It was our good fortune to be chosen among many deserving projects, but it was also the result of many years of hard work. This grant would be bridge support to develop sustainable markets for the future. The funding would help keep food prices stable while funding capacity improvments in market managemet. Many federal grants are frozen, and the newly confirmed OMB director has promised that through the impoundment process, payments will be made according to the president’s whims, not through congressinal appropriations. The grant we speak of was funded by congress through the farm bill in 2024, and contracts and agreements have been signed. Our market supports over 30 farmers, 30 food producers, 20 artisans (when space is available) and over 200 supporting jobs. If you want to help ensure your taxpayer dollars are allocated by Congress, please contact your Senators and Congressmen to demand that previously awarded contracts be honored. What they do affects you and our market.
