Farmers Market at Ix, Nov 4, 2023

The temperatures are reminding us that November has arrived and it’s the right time for the market to start and end an hour later. A hard frost means all the tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, most flowers and frost sensitive plants are done for the season. Sweet potatoes, greens, cole crops, hardy herbs, root vegetables, winter squash of many kinds, apples, pears, honey, meats and eggs are still available. The first Saturday of the month, is your monthly chance to find Deep Roots Milling for freshly ground local grain. We say goodbye and thanks to growers who are going dormant for the season, and hello to new vendors with arts, crafts and prepared foods that are not weather dependent. On that note, Farm Fresh Fusion returns with stuffed Walkin’ Sticks, waffles cooked in rectangular molds. Oro Pasta, and Big Soup sound about right for the season. Here’s a heads up: Next week, look for Ryba’s Pierogi who will be coming to the market on only three dates. The bounty of the season is also available in jams, sauces, syrups, pickles, kimchi, pickles, preserves, or cooked in baked goods. Last but not least, new and returning local artisan have been busy building up stock for the holiday season.

The buskers are coming too, with their little dancing puppets!

Shoppers, please remember to sort your trash into compostable, recyclable or landfill containers. There are photos to guide you.
