Farmers Market at Ix, Jan 20, 2024

Well, in the days of climate change, we can’t complain when it’s cold and snowy. It feels normal. Also reminds us of our long-held goal to find a permanent home for the market and build a shelter! It would help in both sun, rain, wind and the cold. Speaking of wind, it was brutal last week. I know two tents were destroyed, and a few tables and their contents blew over. Thanks for coming out, and a shout out to all the brave and stalwart vendors.

This week, we are not so brave. More cold (and less wind) are keeping some of us back, but we will still have a good assortment of food producers, and a few crafts folk with essential crocheted hats, scarves, screen printed art, candles, and such. It won’t stay this cold for long, and I promise we’ll be strong in average winter weather.

Olive Branch farm shared some information on what to do with microgreens, those nice little plants that keep us eating green in the winter. Olive Branch blog post Both Olive Branch Gardens and Bee Conscious sell microgreens at the Market at Ix. Local vegetables and fruit are hard to come by in the winter, but Agriberry, Singing Earth Produce, Bellair Farm, Rappahannock Mushrooms, Madison Mushrooms, and Henley’s Orchard all have produce.
