Last market of October coming up and then we’ll be heading into the heart of the fall and holiday season. Hours are 9:00 to 1:00, and the market runs until Dec. 18.

The Martha’s Market-Farmers Market at Ix was a successful first time collaboration. Thank you for coming out to support the Martha Jefferson Hospital Foundation, and for supporting local food and arts. For events this size in the future, better traffic planning and management will be needed so more people can join in on the fun.

What’s ahead for the Farmers Market at Ix? The IRC New Roots Farm has ended their season. We were happy to have them set up at Ix, and look forward to their return in Spring. Hopefully you were able to try bitter melon, pumpkin shoots, hot peppers and other specialty items grown by new Americans. Other farmers are also going through seasonal changes. Some will close down for the winter, and others are shifting into cold weather crops. As space becomes available, new prepared food or artisan vendors are coming in. Let us know what you would like to see at the market. A new cheese vendor is expected in November, and Twisted Biscuits food truck has signed up for two weeks in December. Pear is returning for the holiday season!

We look forward to the second installment of the UVA Biology Outreach and Inclusion Program. This week, they will present a demonstration on Colors and Camouflage, a fitting topic for this time of year! Hope you and your families will get over to the red tent area to see what it’s all about.
