Farmers Market at Ix, October 7, 2023

Here we are in October, coming to the end of another growing season. The summer vegetables and fruits are fading, but skilled local farmers planted cool weather greens and root vegetables back in August to have these products ready for fall and winter. Keep in mind the Market at Ix is year round. The last market this year is Dec. 23, 2023, and will reopen Jan 13, 2024. Also note the winter hours, 9:00 to 1:00, will go into effect on Nov. 4.

This season, the jams, sauces, fruit butters and other products are offered, made from the summer’s bounty. The first market of the month is when Deep Roots Milling locally milled grain is offered. Catch them this week in spot 78-79.

Craft season is also gearing up. Look for interesting products offered as some of the seasonal growers bow out for the season.

The SNAP and Fresh Match program continues year round. The 2023 Fresh Match expires at the end of the year, but funding for the 2024 season has been generously supplied through the hard work of the LEAP of Roanoke, and federal and state funding.

Thanks for supporting local entrepreneurs, and see you at the markets.
