National Farmers Market Week at the Farmers Market at Ix, Aug 10, 2024

Hello Friends,

The market tomorrow is the finishing act for National Farmers Market Week. The Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, Governors and Mayors including JuanDiego Wade made proclamations in support of farmers markets. Thanks to all who attended the Farmers Market Forum. The history and data are still available, and we plan to continue the conversation. We welcome applications for positions on the board, and seek expertise in grant writing and bookkeeping.

The big events for tomorrow include a raffle for one of two or three Farmers Market Baskets, full of products donated from vendors. Raffle tickets are for a donation of $10, and can be purchased at the market or on line on this website through the donate button. There is no limit on tickets, and the drawing will be at the market next week, August 17. A list of donations is on the front page of this website. Other activities include a tomato tasting, a watermelon tasting, temporary tattoos for kids, and vendor deals. A violinist will be performing on the stage after 10:00. Our new insulated market bags will be on sale for $15. National Farmers Market Week is a celebration of markets to highlight the benefits that they bring to communities in health, the environment, the economy, and social and community well-being.

This week at the market, Sweet Greens is out, but as far as we know, the farms are in. There was probably some difficulty for farms harvesting with the heavy rains during their normal harvesting time, and flowers were probably pummeled. Alternating vendors include Honeysuckle Creek, Laurel Farm (Native plants), Ryba’s Pierogi, Shaylynn Creates, Fermented Fire Hot Sauce, WY Woodworking, Art by Blossoms, Jason McLeod Jewelry. The Launchpad program entrepreneurs include MixEve, Elroi Bath ‘N Body, and a new business: Milk Glass. The ever popular Mohammed from Temalle Baskets will be here this week for the pent up demand for baskets! Get your baskets now! We welcome brand new vendor Razzbourne Farms this week! They produce goat and sheep’s milk cheeses, and fill a food category that we have been lacking.

Thank you for choosing local food and supporting local producers. We appreciate you!

See you at the market.
