Farmers Market at Ix, April 2, 2022

The Spring Market season has arrived!

Don’t forget the new hours are 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

New and favorite farmers are returning. The reliable favorites are : Agriberry, Free Union Grass Farm, Little Hat Creek Farm, Broadhead Mountain Farm, Natures’ Bridge Farm including the Farming Artist, Bellair Farm, Madison Mushrooms, Olive Branch Farm, Sweet Greens, Bee Conscious, Ternion Springs, Pies and Produce, and Second Mountain Farm. New farms this year are Singing Earth Farm (they have set up with us this winter), Calixto Farm, and Orion Farm. Lesley’s Garden and Perennial Love Botanicals will be returning next week. Customers have asked for more plants and flowers, so we hope these growers will supply what you are looking for.

The Charlottesville Dept. of Taxation has asked for vendor contacts to demand that they start charging customers the meals tax for coffee, open drinks, snacks, and the cooked food that is sold at the market. With the market being low tech, I feel it not a good fit for the market since vendors are not allowed to “cover” the tax for the customer and roll it into the overall price. I believe it is a hardship for our entry level vendors who are struggling to create income. They do not have bookkeepers or accountants, or sophisticated itemized payment processors. As if that were not enough, the City of Charlottesville is proposing to raise the meals tax by .5% at the next council meeting. Please let them know what you think about the meals tax! We are all already paying enough for food in these times of inflation. If anyone can advocate for us, let us know! Our email is here.

The Thursday Night Market will be opening May 5, 4:30 to 7:30. Look for vendor lists and news right here.

Below are the vendors for April 2. Empanadas Market will not be at the Market at Ix. They are returning to City Market.
