Farmers Market at Ix, May 18, 2024
April Showers Bring May Flowers. Well, the flowers are here, but so is the rain! Don’t let the forecast dampen your spirits for local food! and, potentially for local art. You know the drill: the farmers will be here with their beautiful produce and plants. It’s still a great time to put in your garden with herbs, vegetable and flower plants.
Other vendor news: Ambrosia is out for the summer, and for this market only, several of our bakers are out. But good news, Bonobos Bakery is stepping in with a great selection of baked goods to fill the gaps! We need Cinnamon Rolls and more in any weather! Check her on the Marketspread website. Next week after the market, the Charlottesville Arts Festival will be held at the Art Park from Saturday afternoon through Sunday. Some of the market art vendors will be participating. If you are over 60 and qualify for food access support, come see the Market Central team to find out how to sign up for Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Fresh Market bucks. The SNAP and Fresh Match program is available for all SNAP recipients. Market Central’s SNAP Outreach Coordinator is busy connecting with the community to let families know about the programs at the markets. In partnership with the IRC New Roots program, we successfully submitted a USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program Grant, with the help of community pledges. Thanks for your support, and the results will be announced in October.
This week, the UVA Biology Outreach Inclusion Project team will be holding one their popular interactive education programs at the market.
As you check the Marketspread live link, you’ll be able to track vendor cancellations. Vendors with vulnerable products hold out for a change in the forecast, so sometimes there are late cancellations. We will post them as soon as we know.
See you at the market!
