Farmer Market at Ix, August 31, 2024

Labor Day weekend is already upon us. The summer fruits and vegetables will be tapering off, while the fall gourds, pumpkins, pears, apples, greens and root vegetables will be taking their place. With the loss of Inglewood Fine Meats, customers have been asking for other beef producers. Peacemeal Farm, Henley’s, Bellair, and Chevy Chase all produce beef. Peacemeal, Gillispie’s County Line, and Free Union produce chicken. We think for now, these farms will fill customer needs for meat. We’ll look into whether or not they produce lamb.

There are plenty of flower vendors this week, and one vendor, Laurel Farms, grows landscape plants, many of them native varieties. Fall is an excellent time to plant.

For all of you that have been asking, Najeeba from Angels’s Afghan Cuisine will return. Our occasional vendors this week include Farm Fresh Fusion with their walking stick waffles, SFG Foods who may be switching to attend every week (for grits, Mac and Cheese, breakfast tacos, and more), Spice Titan all the way from Roanoke, Nicola Jay Merriman Pottery, Temmalle Baskets, Bald and Beautyful, and Blueridge Beeswax. Shop with them while you can! New craftsman this week is Mythical Makes. Some of our other new vendors include Razzbourne Creamery for sheep and goats milk cheese, and Eat My Treats for American style sweets.

At the managers booth you can run your SNAP card and receive matching VA Fresh Match coupons, and pick up a free reusable shopping bag, or support Market Central by purchasing a fancy insulated market bag. Enjoy these last days of summer at the market, and hope you find everything you are looking for. A Vegetarian Fest is coming up at Ix Art Park on Sunday, Sept. 15.
